Description
Heinrich Heidersberger (1906–2006) built his 'Rhythmograph' — a room-sized pendulum apparatus in Wolfsburg — to draw with light: oscillations traced directly onto photographic paper. His Rhythmogramme are machine-generated abstraction a decade before the computer plotters this collection follows. Original print on Agfa photographic paper, annotated by hand on the reverse.
The date is an estimate: this Rhythmogramm is not individually dated. Heidersberger made his roughly 300 Rhythmogramme mainly between 1957 and 1968 (the pendulum 'Rhythmograph' apparatus dates from about 1953).
