Description
Heinrich Heidersberger (1906–2006) built his 'Rhythmograph' — a room-sized pendulum apparatus in Wolfsburg — to draw with light: oscillations traced directly onto photographic paper. His Rhythmogramme are machine-generated abstraction a decade before the computer plotters this collection follows. Original print on Agfa photographic paper, annotated by hand on the reverse.
The date is an estimate: this Rhythmogramm is not individually dated. Heidersberger made his roughly 300 Rhythmogramme mainly between 1957 and 1968 (the pendulum 'Rhythmograph' apparatus dates from about 1953). This sheet ('Umflochtenes Grau') is listed by the dealer without a year but accompanied by a 1967 letter from the artist.
