Description
Skyfall over the Desert is among the titled compositions in Kröhnert's Colo(u)r Fields series (documented on her site in February 2022, so datable to c. 2021–22): a sky of magenta and cyan falls in a gradient toward a pale sand of near-empty cells. Each of the grid's six-millimeter cells is filled with up to ten strokes of cyan, magenta, yellow, or black acrylic ink according to gradient, density, and seed variables set in Grasshopper, then plotted on her self-built AxiDraw-style pen plotter on Seawhite of Brighton 240 gsm Bristol board — the generating parameters plotted along the bottom edge like a caption. The series marks her deliberate turn from the figurative nebula and butterfly plots toward abstraction ("I have been heavy on the figurative side… and thought I change that"), balancing algorithmic order against controlled randomness.
