Exploder is a long-form generative system based on a geometric transformation that dissects a ellipsoid form into quadrangles in spherical coordinate space. The current version is an evolution of the 2010 iteration of the same system, which was created as a way to manifest a digital system in physical space, using artist tape to render wireframes projected on the wall. This evolution returns the piece to the digital as its primary habitat, adding aspects of color and animation not seen in the the wall drawings. But the mechanism for those drawings is still there in the software, available as a DIY drawing mode. Exploder remains a comment on the hybrid realities we inhabit, as well as the unbearable lightness of the digital. Press [h] to display a help screen, use a mouse for 3D navigation. Drawing mode is triggered by [enter], use [space] to step through the all boxes of the composition one by one. ----- Marius Watz, 2025
