Description
Acquired from Out of the Attic, DAM Projects' 2023 memorial exhibition for Wolfgang Kiwus (d. 2022) — the first Berlin presentation of his works on paper. A Stuttgart musician, poet and essayist steeped in Max Bense's writings and a friend of Frieder Nake, Kiwus began programming image-generating automata in the mid-eighties, made his first works on paper with a dot-matrix printer around 1987, and turned to the pen plotter in 1991. "For him, computer artists are those who programme their own paintings and drawings, not those who use computers and digital media as tools." His work is characterised by regulation and process rather than chance. (Source: damprojects.org)
