Description
The character set as a drawing medium. Since 1996 Vuk Ćosić has written his own software to translate images and moving pictures into ASCII — the printable characters every computer already agrees on — most famously in Deep ASCII, which replays a scene from Deep Throat in nothing but typography, and in the ASCII History of Moving Images. Very Deep ASCII carries that work off the screen and onto paper: the letterforms are drawn one at a time by a pen plotter, so a medium invented for terminals and email arrives as ink, at the hand-speed of a machine. Edition 1/3, framed. Acquired from DAM Projects, Berlin, in July 2026, from the gallery of Wolf Lieser, who has represented the pioneers of this field since the 1990s.
