Description
Ringers, released on Art Blocks in January 2021, is Dmitri Cherniak's landmark generative series of 1,000 algorithmic compositions exploring the nearly infinite ways a string can be wrapped around a set of pegs, with each output's peg count, layout, wrap orientation, and color flourishes determined by a unique transaction hash. Ringers #962 entered the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 2023 as part of the Cozomo de' Medici gift of blockchain artworks — among the first major museum acquisitions of generative NFT art. That year Cherniak marked the acquisition with "Ringers #962: The LACMA Iterations," a seven-layer embossed silkscreen edition released with Avant Arte that restates #962 as a nine-part parameter sweep in a 3×3 grid — the peg count sampled from 10% to 100%, the signature yellow peg constant throughout — in the artist's black, white, and yellow, with proceeds donated to the museum.
