Me, in profile, in stripes. This and Nika's portrait were stage one of the family portraits, commissioned in 2017 after my friend Alexis introduced me to Sanchez's work. It's ballpoint pen — the grey hair, the chambray collar, all of it — drawn stroke over stroke on archival paper by an artist who gets color and depth out of a pen that shouldn't have either in it.
